The Rev. Rick Dunham, In Fr. Rick's own words: I was born and raised in Corpus Christi. I graduated from Ray High School in 1968. Following high school, I attended Del Mar for a year and transferred to the University of Texas, Austin. I graduated from U.T. in 1972. For one of my college graduation gifts, I was privileged to be in the next to last draft call of the Viet Nam War. I did not go to Viet Nam. Instead, I went to Germany where, let’s just say, I had a real fine time. I married the former Jane Trigg in 1971. Jane died in 2000 after a long illness. We have one son, Jared. He will celebrate his 30th birthday in April. Currently, Jared is stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL where he is in the Army helicopter school. He is married and has two children. My ordained life began a little over 31 years ago on June 12th, 1979. That was an auspicious start to my career because, as many will recall, 1979 was the year the current Book of Common Prayer was adopted and the ordination of women was formally approved. From that beginning, my years of service have paralleled the constant controversies that have marked church life over these years. Directing parishes while dealing with the many and varied controversies was a key element in my ordained life. It certainly was never dull! My years of ordained service were blessed with a remarkable stability. In those years I was privileged to serve only four congregations. Coming out of seminary, I served for 3years as assistant rector at St. Peter's, Kerrville. Next, I spent 5years as rector at Church of the Advent, Alice. I then moved to Moscow, Idaho and served for 15years at St. Mark's. I moved to Bandera in 2002. I retired after serving St. Christopher’s for eight delightful years. I have now returned to where I began. I live in Corpus Christi because I love being close to the water and the freedom it offers. Among other things, I enjoy both kayaking and fishing. I also have two loveable Labrador/Retrievers who thrive on running and swimming. |
