Overview and Stages of our Process

Each stage is an inward journey that prepares us to move outward to the next stage. Within every ending of each stage lies the beginning of the next. It is like walking the labyrinth.  As you walk to the center you prepare yourself to receive God’s wisdom, mercy and grace. The gifts you receive are then available to you as you live your daily life. This is why it is important to walk deliberately with care, attention and intention through our search process.  With prayerful work each stage grounds us more fully in God’s mission and purpose and helps to draw to us our next rector.

We secured our ministries and our quality of life together as a parish.

The first order of business as we began this new phase of our life at All Saints’ is to bring us to a place where we can faithfully continue to live our life together as a parish while we conduct a search. The Diocese of West Texas assists the parish throughout this process.

After the Rev. Sandy Casey-Martus’ departure in February 2011, the Rev. Ed Dohoney from the Diocese met with the Vestry to help identify all of our ministries. A Vestry liaison was assigned to each grouping of ministries to provide communication and support to keep moving forward with the work we, as a parish, see as important.

Another vital item in this stepping off point for our search is the continued pastoral care of the parish. Bishop Reed asked the recently retired Rev. Rick Dunham to shepherd us through this time as our Interim Rector.

The Search Committee was formed to discern on behalf of the congregation.

Search Committee

Front Row L to R: Jan Hilton, Mary Carpenter (co-chair), Cissy Tabor, Bob Harper, Ella Mason and Mary Jones. Back Row L to R: Jim Tyree, John Stearns, John Wills and Dee Haven (co-chair)

Our Senior Warden, Cathy Chatham, selected Mary Carpenter and Dee Haven to co-chair the Search Committee. Through a prayerful process the three of them selected the other Search Committee members. (see above)

The Search Committee’s charge is to be the eyes, ears, mind and heart of the parish in order to discern who would best serve as our next rector. Throughout this time they will come together to hone their skills for listening to God’s call. Based on our Vestry-approved Parish Profile, the Bishop gives a list of candidates to the Search Committee to discern. The Search Committee will send letters and the parish profile to candidates. Search teams will visit candidates in their parish and listen to them preach. The Search Committee will discern who is the best fit for our new rector and present their findings to the Vestry. It is the Vestry’s decision to make the call.

We voiced who and where we are and where we want to go.

The Parish Profile is everyone’s voice in the search process. Getting in touch with our own story, naming our unique gifts and challenges, acknowledging and letting go of the past allows us to focus on the future into which God is calling us. Our voice was heard through profile surveys and the Parish Profile Workshop. The diocese and the Vestry worked together to craft the final Parish Profile.

We welcome our new Rector.

When our new rector is installed, the Search Committee becomes a transition committee to help the rector settle in.

We will celebrate our work and our faithfulness and that of our new rector as we continue to listen for and move into God’s call for our community.
