the Rev. Jonathan Wickham and his family

Wickham family

(L to R) Father Jonathan, Ian, Jennifer, and Patrick Wickham

Jonathan

A native of Upstate New York, Jonathan was an active Presbyterian throughout his youth. At a college-student conference he met a beautiful red-headed Episcopal girl from Missouri – Jennifer - who won his heart. Marriage and a transfer of membership to the Episcopal Church soon followed. He earned his Associate of Science at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, New York and his Bachelor of Artsin 1992 from Binghamton University, in Binghamton, New York.

Jonathan’s first calling to ministry was as a parish youth minister. After ten years of youth ministry in Upstate New York, Tennessee and Corpus Christi (at the Church of the Good Shepherd), Texas he entered seminary at The University of the South School of Theology in Sewanee, Tennessee sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. He graduated and was ordained in 2002.

St. George Episcopal Church and School in San Antonio was his first placement as a priest, followed by two years on as the Bishop's Deputy for Youth Ministry. Jonathan has served the past five years as Associate Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Downtown San Antonio. His other experience includes EFM mentor, middle school teacher, youth ministry trainer and instructor and local and diocesan ministries.

Jonathan and Jennifer are blessed with two sons: Patrick, a junior at TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas, and Ian, an eighth grader at St. George Episcopal School in Castle Hills. On October 20, 2011 Jonathan and Jennifer celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary.

Jonathan says of his hobbies and activities, "My favorite hobbies are ones that I do with my kids and with Jennifer. As a family we enjoy outdoor activities like bicycling, camping, fishing, hiking, traveling, and lots of youth sports. At home we like to read, listen to and make music, watch good movies, eat good food, play with our dogs and cats, and laugh a lot."

Jennifer

Jennifer is the Director of Religious Formation at St. George Episcopal School, San Antonio, TX.  She is also a Christian Education Consultant, Certified Godly Play Trainer, EFM Mentor Trainer, potter, musician, missionary to Haiti and a great friend. She is a native of Springfield, MO and a graduate of The University of Tulsa and is currently a Graduate Student in Sociology at the University of Texas-San Antonio. She has extensive experience in parish-wide Christian Education.

Throughout their life together Jonathan and Jennifer have sought to follow the call to serve God’s people in places near and far. Recently this has led Jennifer and her fellow leaders at St. George Episcopal School to a partnership with the Episcopal Church in Haiti. This collaboration with a small school in rural Northern Haiti was begun before the devastating earthquake of January 2010, and has taken on deep significance since then.

After many visits to Haiti they remain more convinced than ever that God is doing something amazing there. The call to serve is an invitation to witness Christ’s love and transformative power in new and wonderful ways.

Patrick is a junior at TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas and is an exceptional student. He plays soccer and lacrosse and runs cross-country.  He is active in the Upbeats boys a cappella group, InterAct student service group and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Both boys are very active in the St. Mark’s youth program and in the diocesan camping program at Camp Capers.

Quotes from members of the Search Committee

Dear All Saints’ Family,

I am delighted to introduce to you our new priest, the Reverend Jonathan Wickham. Your prayers, your input in the Parish Profile, the Search Committee’s dedication to listening to God’s call for us, and Jonathan’s willingness to hear God’s call to him have now united us all in what we hope to be a most fruitful relationship in Christ. Below are a few comments from some Search Committee members that express what we have seen in Jonathan and his wife Jennifer.

Yours in Christ, Mary Carpenter, Search Committee Co-chair

“Having worked with Jonathan on the Camps and Conferences Committee, I was already favorably impressed with his commitment and leadership; that grew even more during our search process. The impressive thing for me is that Jonathan considers his most important job is leading us to ministry for Jesus Christ. I was also very impressed with his wife Jennifer. While she doesn't in any way see herself as Jonathon's "co-rector" or "assistant," she brings a commitment to several important ministries of her own.”  - Dee Haven

“I am in awe of God’s power and grace. When I look at our Parish Profile and when I look at Jonathan’s gifts, he fits us like a glove. Pastoral care is his passion. He understands the importance of lay leadership in a parish and is committed to encouraging people to get involved. He has a great appreciation and love for worship.”  - Mary Carpenter

“I am so touched at the passion Jonathan feels and exerts inward and outward. His spiritual passion has the effect of a prism that reflects and explodes; its light and the beams pass through each heart it  touches. Conversations with him convince me that he is the fundamental basis to aid All Saints in exploring our future as a Parish.”   – Ella Mason

“I believe Jonathan’s personality will fit well with All Saints'. His dedication to the Episcopal Church and his previous focus on the development of the youth of the church impresses me. I am glad to find that his recent role was at the largest Episcopal Church in San Antonio with three services as we have here at All Saints’. His wife, Jennifer, impresses me with her intelligence, her career dedication to the church and her background in EFM. I believe she will be a great and caring addition to our All Saints' congregation of workers. He and his wife Jenifer speak fondly of their previous years living in Corpus Christi and working at the Church of the Good Shepherd. They both look forward to returning to Corpus Christi.”  - Bob Harper
